How To File Your Taxes For Free
PSA for those who don’t know: don’t ever use turbo tax or other companies like that. There’s a free file system on the IRS and government websites that will help you file for free. Like, actually free. It’s required by law but they like to hide it so people don’t know about it.
Federal Taxes
To file your federal taxes for free, there are several links on the IRS website that can help you. This is the main page you can start on. From there you can diverge into two options. Option one, finding an IRS partner organization to help, or option two, using digital forms you can fill out online.
State Taxes
Because I live in the mediocre state of Illinois, I’ll link to theirs, but, the process for filing taxes like this is generally similar from state to state. Some states websites aren’t quite as easy to navigate, but if you’re having trouble finding the right link, take your time, and if needed, call your state internal revenue department.
